FAA Takes A ‘Major’ Step Towards Return Of Supersonic Air Travel

The FAA has taken a major step forward toward reintroducing supersonic commercial air travel with a proposed rulemaking to set noise certification standards for new supersonic aircraft. The purpose of the noise certification Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (PDF) (NPRM) is to add landing and takeoff noise standards for a certain class of new supersonic airplanes. The NPRM is open for public comment for 90 days from the date of publication in the Federal Register.
